WCAG AAA
Level AAA's the gold standard of digital inclusivity. While it's the most difficult level to achieve and might not be possible for every type of content, it provides the most accessible experience for the widest possible range of users. Requirements for AAA include a 7:1 contrast ratio for standard text, providing pre-recorded sign language for video content, and ensuring that you can suppress interruptions or re-authenticate without losing data.
Because the criteria for AAA are so specific, they often influence the core layout and content strategy of your product. For example, Level AAA requires that if your content's above a lower secondary reading level, you must provide a supplemental, simplified version to help users with cognitive disabilities. While few websites achieve full AAA compliance across every page, incorporating these elements into your design system ensures that the most vulnerable users have an equitable experience, pushing the boundaries of what it means to build a universal product.
