Interaction design
Interaction design is the practice of designing the conversation between a user and a product. It goes beyond static visuals to define the behavior of the interface: how a menu slides out, how a form validates input, and how a user moves from one task to the next. The goal is to create a seamless experience where the interface responds to user actions in a way that is both intuitive and helpful, minimizing the cognitive load required to complete a task.
Successful interaction design relies on clear communication. This involves using consistent patterns and affordances that tell the user what can be interacted with and what the result will be. By anticipating user needs and providing a structured path for their journey, designers can create products that feel effortless to use, leading to higher retention and a more satisfying overall experience.
